Châtel
is a traditional French village, that despite being
established as an excellent ski destination has managed
to maintain its traditional French rustic charm; from
flower-filled meadows in the summer, with the distant
ringing of cow bells to the pretty snow laden fir trees
that line the pistes in the winter. It really is a
beautiful place to visit.
With
unlimited access to the Portes du Soleil, Châtel and the
surrounding villages, there is plenty to keep you busy
without having to stray from the valley, with numerous
sporting activities, shops, bars, restaurants and
cinemas. Châtel has the added bonus of being
only 90
minutes away from Geneva Airport (a very short
transfer), and is one of the nearest resorts for those
wishing to drive from the UK. Châtel and La Chapelle
D’Abondance villages are nestled in the Châtel valley
situated in the Haute Savoie region on France. The
proximity of the resorts to the Swiss border means that
you can breakfast in France, and ski over the border to
have lunch in Switzerland.

The
area makes a pleasant and uncrowded centre for walking
and mountain biking. Several of the major cable cars
and chairlifts are open for those who prefer to ride to
the top! There is a strong events programme in Châtel for Mountain Biking, and on an annual basis there are World Cup
and International events across the Portes du Soleil. In
addition the Tour de France travels through the region
every year. Information on walks in the area and a
guiding service are available. In addition to this there
are a number of other activities that can be packaged
including golf, tennis, swimming, angling, and white
water rafting, paragliding, luge, carting and, unique to
Châtel, ‘Fantasticable’ - a zip line across the valley.
