Châtel’s ski area makes up part of the
Portes du Soleil,
the world’s largest linked ski circuit, which includes 2
countries (France and Switzerland), 14 resorts, 209
lifts, 288 marked slopes, 243 km of cross-country
skiing, 9 snowparks, 1085 ski instructors and over 650km
of piste Châtel itself has approximately 130 km of
pistes, and links directly with pistes in Switzerland.
Châtel and the surrounding resorts have an excellent
snow record; many of the pistes are on pasture land and
therefore require only minimal snow depths to create
ideal skiing conditions. The mix of open piste and
forest creates a stunning backdrop throughout the
villages of the Abondance Valley, which due to their
close proximity to both Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc
creates a micro-climate, ensuring significant snowfall
throughout the winter months.
